Was Christianity beaten into my enslaved ancestors?

Discussing evidence that enslaved African Americans became Christians despite, rather than because of, their slave "masters."

If you're like most people in America, you probably believe that European Americans (aka white people) forced African Americans to become Christians by beating Jesus into them. Most people have heard that idea so many times that they subconsciously believe it without challenging whether they have seen any evidence that it is true.
